Every time there is a huge and shocking disaster involving loss of human life, the scammers come out to try and feed on those willing to help in disaster relief. It happened on 9/11 and now it is happening with the Tsunami relief effort.
There have been a rash of emails going around that ask for help for Tsunami victims in India and Indonesia. People who open these emails are being sent to a realistic-looking yet fraudulent American Red Cross website, where visitors are encouraged to enter their credit card numbers and donate to the scammers’ pocketbooks.
I guess the Lagos, Nigeria “Help me move huge sums of cash out of the country” scam has lost its sheen and scammers are now getting more creating while stooping to new depths.
