Like a lot of features introduced by Google, if it isn’t working, it goes away. The short name in Google My Business, without much fan-fair, is slinking away shortly due to non-use.
When Google introduced this new feature, they said this:
“When you share your short name, customers can enter the name’s URL in the browser’s address bar to go directly to your Business Profile. For example, customers can search for g.page/[yourcustomname]in the address bar to find your business.”
But did anyone actually use this feature? Not really.
So, now Google says this:
“Important: You can no longer create or edit short names. Short names and URLs that already exist will still work.”
Dying on the vine, withering away, slowly passing away of dehydration, you get the point. The short name has been short-lived and without as much as a fancy, yet frivolous funeral we give you a 21-raspberry salute and bid you adieu.
