Yesterday at CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Google demonstrated its new feature for Google Assistant called “Interpreter Mode.” This translation app will allow people of different languages to communicate without the pain of taking foreign language classes or other education systems such as Rosetta Stone.
The translations are done in real time using Google AI and as of now 27 different languages can be translated.
According to Wired, “A new feature in Google Assistant, called Interpreter Mode, turns the virtual assistant into a real-time language translator between two people who are trying to chat in the same physical space. It starts rolling out today on Google-powered smart displays and smart speakers … The Interpreter feature is launching today as a small pilot at a few hotels; one in New York, another in San Francisco, and Caesar’s Palace in Vegas. It will support 27 languages to start, and will be available only on the Google Home Hub, Google Home speakers, and third-party Google Assistant displays.”
Now how does this apply to SEO? Even though Interpreter Mode is not yet available for Android phones, it will be. And when this day comes, you can expect this to have an invaluable effect on tourism with increased interaction between tourists and locals and perhaps an increase in overall tourism.
This will impact local SEO for companies at tourist destinations all over the globe. Interpreter Mode will be integrated with Google Maps, smartphones, voice search and most likely websites alongside the Google Translate app.
For those just getting into SEO for voice search, Interpreter Mode may just be the Next Big Thing to think about when rolling out a holistic internet marketing plan on behalf of clients.
