Some webmasters and SEO’s have been tempted to spam pages with FAQ schema. Why is this? Google uses FAQ schema so that it can display questions and answers in rich search results and for use with Google Assistant. And since the results are hit and miss, this had led some to put FAQ schema for the same questions and answers on multiple pages, hoping that Google will notice and kindly reward them for the efforts.
Well, yes, Google has noticed but not in a favorable way.
According to Google’s new guidelines: “If you have FAQ content that is repetitive on your site (meaning, the same question and answer appear on multiple pages on your site), mark up only one instance of that FAQ for your entire site.”
And according to Search Engine Land: “FAQ schema is designed to be added to FAQ pages that provide a list of frequently asked questions and answers on a particular topic. Adding this structured data helps Google show questions and answers directly on Google Search and the Assistant. Here is how it can look in the search results.”
So, there you have it. Don’t spam your website with the same Q&A page after page in hopes of getting within Google’s good graces. Instead offer your visitor unique FAQ that are helpful and relevant. What a concept!
