Google has recently announced that they have made a few interesting updates to the Google Search Console (GSC). With this recent update, people can get more focused insights about existing issues with their pages so that they can solve them quickly to solve indexing issues.
What Changes to GSC Have Been Made?
Google said that they have used more fine-grained statuses for the index coverage report. It is now possible for this search engine to relabel a few categories with updated ones or specific ones. The list of changes applied with this recent update include:
- Removal of a generic issue named crawl anomaly. With this, all crawl errors must be now mapped to an issue leading to finer resolution.
- Pages that were earlier submitted but got blocked by robot.txt while getting indexed will be now categorized as “indexed but blocked” instead of “submitted but blocked”. Note that the older representation used to represent an error but the newer one will be showing a warning.
- The new update to the coverage reports on Google also created a new issue category: “indexed without content” which is basically a warning.
- The Soft 404 reporting is now more accurate in Google Search Console.
All of these changes are useful for marketing experts. With these changes, you may now be able to dive deeper into Google crawling and indexing related issues on the website. Note that the generic “crawl anomaly” issue is now replaced with a specific issue. With these changes, you can easily determine why Google is experiencing trouble in crawling a specific page.
Also, since you’re already in GSC, you should check out the Core Web Vitals page as the information listed will become more relevant in the weeks and months to come.
