On August 01, 2018 Google rolled out what is being referred to in the SEO community as the “Medic Update.”
This update primarily impacts YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) websites with a keen focus on health and medical sites.
According to Google, they are not going after and de-ranking spammy sites. Rather they have decided to promote the ranks of authority sites than have not gotten the “love” in the rankings up to this point.
According to Search Engine Land, “Google references its advice from the previous core updates, saying there’s no ‘fix’ for pages that may perform less well, other than to remain focused on building great content. Over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages. Google also said, As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded.”
For websites that have been impacted by this update it is important to continue to build out the authority of your website in relation to your competitors. Make sure that your website doesn’t have any technical errors on it and go full steam ahead with the Content Is King endeavors to make your site stand a head above the rest.
