Several years back I wrote an article called “How to Avoid Being Blacklisted by the Search Engines” and it was picked up and republished by a lot of other websites. Now, I think it’s time to update this article a bit with this article that I’m titling “How to Get Blacklisted By the Search Engines.”
I’m writing this a bit tongue-in-cheek since nobody in their right mind would want to get their website banned by Google, Bing or Yahoo. But, it may come as a surprise, in this day and age, that some people will go the extra mile to try to game the search engines and end up getting banned. I’m writing this blog post targeting small Local business owners who may not know any better and may just want to try to go it on their own with SEO and try to get ahead.
So, for my source material I decided to head on over to that world-renowned SEO hotspot eBay for some help. I conducted a few searches for SEO on eBay and I’ve listed some of the more outrageous offers, that if conducted, are certain to get your website blacklisted (at some point) by the search engines.
Here are real offers (please don’t do any of these):
- In one month, get 100,000 Backlinks
- 1,700 article directories
- 1,100 Wiki Links
- 1,000 .edu backlinks
- 100 .gov backlinks
- 10,000 blog comment links
