Now, you might expect to find a full-time SEO job in a small town like Redlands, California at either their major corporation, ESRI or at a nearby mega hospital like Loma Linda University Medical Center. And of course, you would be right in your assumption. Both of these places hire full-time SEO’s.
But Main Street is also starting to catch up with the need for new technology and new marketing, to keep up with the times and increase their sales. Take for instance, Henry Bush Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning, 429 Texas Street in Redlands, CA which is hiring a full-time SEO person.
Here is a snippet from their Indeed.com advertisement:
“Position Summary: Search Engine Optimization is a key component to this position. Responsible for discovering cost effective ways to ensure that our company is identified on the first page of every search engine. Performing web analytics and using this data to continuously improve the effectiveness of online spending to capture new customers. This person will also be tasked with leading our social media efforts in engaging consumers, building loyalty, and growing our online community.”
Now, typically in the recent past, Main Street businesses like plumbers, locksmiths, doctors, lawyers, dentists, restaurants, roofers, pet shops, computer repair stores and auto mechanics haven’t all had websites (and many still don’t). Of those who do have websites, most have not hired an SEO contractor to optimize their sites.
But, the tide is turning. Companies like Henry Bush Plumbing are starting to see the value of hiring full-time SEO’s so that they can dominate their competition in their local online market and take the lion’s share of the sales.
And this is a trend that will continue to grow as competition on Main Street continues to heat up.
